For this gift that will benefit me throughout my life...

"Teach your children to choose the right path, and when they are older, they will remain upon it."
Taken from the BIBLE Proverbs 22:6

I had some memories flash back today...

I'm thinking about the time when I'm still a primary student. About primary 2,3. Having not much of a freedom studying what I'm told to study. Never able to understand what's all this things gona do good to me. Never like math when in primary school, not good in english too. The only subject that makes me proud of myself is mandarin.

My chinese scored the highest among all other subjects. Well... I'm not a born-to-be chinese scorer. This comes with a price to pay. My mum is very particular about my chinese grades. She will make sure that my chinese grade to be over 90 marks. She always remind me, it's important for a chinese to know his mandarin well.

By just saying, it will not make any different.

I remember during that time. There are a lot of weekly news magazines for children, all in mandarin, distributed to everyone of us every week. For those who still remember, its the "Hao Peng You" and the "Zi Xing Ri Bao".In the magazine, there are a lot of chinese quiz and comprehension. My mum will always sit by me and force me to finish everything in that magazine. She will always correct my pronunciation and my writing.

She everytime will teach me a chapter ahead using the school chinese textbook. Everytime when there is chinese spelling, she will always force not only memorizes the word, the meaning and how to use it in sentences. While, our teacher only require us to memorizes how to write the words. All this carry on until when I'm in secondary school.

Well... Now I'm in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, she is no longer sitting beside me to teach me anymore, well... What I'm studying now is design. But, now I'm still proud of myself being able to speak mandarin fluently although not being the best. At least, what she had done makes me this interest in mandarin. I like to read chinese novel, comic, able to understand movies directed by Zheng Yi Mou and there are more to mention.

I'm really thankful and grateful for her teaching of mandarin to me. For this gift that will benefit me throughout my life.
Thank God for my Mum...
